Ask the Dent Repair Expert – Paul Howard
There are many skeptics when it comes to the effectiveness of Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). Generally, most dents that were not caused by another moving vehicle (that is, collision type damage) and that do not have paint damage, can be repaired using the PDR method. New dealership vehicles that have had minor dents repaired, including those caused by hail damage, can go right back into the showroom!
Paintless dent repair does not really “repair” the damage. In fact, it reverses or undoes the damage that was caused, as the metal in your vehicle is manipulated back to where it was before it was damaged. Because there are no fillers or any repainting done, the damaged metal is gently massaged back into place. In most cases, with skilled technicians, this is undetectable.
Some larger and more severe dents may also be candidates for PDR, and your PDR estimator should be able to tell you to what degree this can be accomplished.
