Lethbridge Home Decor Expert – Becky Van Sluys

Now that December is upon us, most of us have pulled out our Christmas decorations. We all have different themes and colours that we use in our homes but one thing that we can all do similar is to pull in natural elements to our décor. Besides our trees we can incorporate natural greenery and other neutral elements into vases, mantles and trays. There are some excellent artificial versions these days, but if you can find fresh clippings to use in planters it’s all the more beautiful. Winter greenery looks different than what you would see in the spring and summer due to the types of trees and plants that grow seasonally. Typically pine and cedar are used at this time of year and their colours aren’t as bright as the spring time greens. So add in your favourite colours and patterns with ribbons, add some lights and Christmas balls to a vase. If you are one for sparkle now is the time to use it! Try adding silver and gold tea light holders to your mantle or to a tray mixed with greens. Simple elements like greenery and birch logs can add so much to your décor this time of year and it can take you through into January without feeling specifically just like Christmas décor. So head out to your yard first and look for pine cones, branches and greens to incorporate into your décor. From all of us at The Grey Goat, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.
