Welcome to a new year of possibilities. In recent years, many Hatters have been remodeling their homes; creating something new out of something old. It’s the prairie way, rebuilding, remodeling, and renewing; building on the foundations laid in the past, to enhance and equip our future.
Here are 5 tips for your home renovation project.
- Build a scrapbook of ideas.
Pinterest and Houzz are two good resources for new ideas. Keep track of the good ideas, and the bad ones. It is as important to track the good ideas, as it is the ones you don’t want.
- Be prepared for the budget. Don’t compare the costs with what you see on HGTV. It seems to me, that the prices shown on the screen are as real as the host’s sparkling white teeth and suntan.
- Time of year and costs.
The cost to remodel your home is dependent on the cost of materials. Lumber is a commodity and often priced better in winter. If you are staging your project through the year keep in mind costs of building materials and labour increase with demand, and the warm weather.
- Preparation & Planning.
Using the scrapbook, stick to your plan and leave the audibles for the football field. Quick changes to your plan can destroy your budget
- Building for the Future.
You get what you pay for. Consider resilient and durable materials and products, along with timeless and classic looks
