Self Clean Ovens (Pyrolytic) VS. Steam Clean Ovens
Pros & Cons of Pyroltic Self-Cleaning
The oven gives of a bad smell, the fumes could be toxic to birds. The oven also gets very hot (500-900 Degrees). This type of oven has smooth enamel coating that makes it easy to remove the residue and ashes after cleaning. It also locks your oven and burners.
Ovens get very dirty, even to the point of setting off the fire alarm. Pyrolyic self cleaning does a great job of cleaning the whole oven cavity, even the hard to reach places. And easy to wipe up when finished.
Pros & Cons of Steam Cleaning
Steam clean ovens do a good job on the bottom of the oven, but not on the back or sides. Steam cleaning should be done more often, since it does it at a much lower temperature.
Steam Cleaning is much quicker than self cleaning, 20-30 minutes, since the oven only gets to about 250 degrees, there is no smoke, fumes or smell, and you can still use the burners, but must been done more often.
