Father’s Day

There is much pressure on parents to spend huge amounts of money on their children. Whether it’s the latest smartphone upgrade or expensive trips, there are an unlimited amount of wants and needs.

Many of the expenditures can be justified.  The right calculator for high school would be an example of this. Food, clothing, and shelter are all basic needs that parents ought to provide for their children. Expensive Gucci belts? Not really a basic need.

One basic need all children have is love.  In all the spending, sometimes it gets forgotten.  A child needs to know that a dad cares. A dad who spends time loving kids and is not too harsh in correction goes further in showing love than spending huge amounts of money on things that will be in the garbage later on.

Love can be hard to define.  It can be difficult to express. But it’s obvious when it’s missing.  Parents, find ways to express love other than spending money. More money doesn’t mean more love.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.  1 Corinthians 13:1 • 780-532-0649.
