More than Just Talk
My wife and I had been planning and talking about getting more exercise. We discussed doing more walking. We talked about getting a membership at the gym. But that was as far as it got. Talk. Talk did not help me lose any weight. In fact, I didn’t even have a pair of gym shoes.
Finally, we got beyond talking about exercise and I bought a pair of running shoes. We starting walking every night. I ran on the gym’s treadmill. I realized that to get the benefits of exercise, I had to do more than just talk about it. I had to take action and do something.
All too often, many people talk about writing a book, getting a better job, or finally cleaning out that cluttered spare bedroom. And that’s all they do. Discuss, think about it and dream. Days quickly turn into weeks and then months and years slip by while nothing is accomplished. It was all just talk with no action.
I challenge you to think about areas of your life where talk dominates and action is weak. Take action. Do something, anything. As time slips through your fingers, it’s too easy to do nothing and look back with regret upon a talking but not doing. We could all use more than just talk.
“…be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
