Hope of a Tree
I had some old trees in my yard. I felt that they were beginning to look a little rough and they were growing close to a power line. It was time for them to be cut down.
All three trees were eventually removed. Then, with a grinder, the stumps were turned to sawdust. I was satisfied that the trees were gone. In a few weeks, however, I was proven wrong. Little saplings sprung up all over the lawn. I pulled every one; yet, they came back in another week. The trees had been cut down and removed. But they still came back with new growth.
This made me think about the times in life that things get cut down. Major changes in health, finances, jobs, or relationships can mean that great things are removed. Like my removed trees, things in life get changed. It may seem hopeless for new growth once the stump has been ground to sawdust.
No matter how dreary life may feel after these shocking changes, it is important to know that new life will grow where trees were removed. Even when the situation you are in feels hopeless, remember that hope exists even when you can’t see it. Just as there is new life in a cut down tree, there are new beginnings in your life after old things have been removed.
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise.
