The new year is once again upon us and like many, it was likely rung in with dreams, plans, and resolutions for 2019. A new year is a natural new beginning, and a great time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. Yet, many of our plans concern things that are only temporary, and are often abandoned early in the year for our comforts and habits.

The most common plans are all extremely valuable in their own rights: become healthier, more organized, connect with friends, advance in our career, or something similar. But how do we know which one is the most important for us right now? And how will these things will impact our eternity?

The only one who can answer these tough questions is God, who knows everything. In fact, there is nothing more valuable than drawing closer to God and letting Him direct your path and your steps. If you make this your main focus of 2019, it will be the most fulfilling, rewarding and blessed year you have had so far. How do I know? From my own first hand experience: I remember what my life was like without God, and how different it has been every year with Him. And God promises this same result to all who pursue relationship Him.

“But SEEK first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33.

“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who SEEKS Him.” – Lamentations 3:25.

“For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord , ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will SEEK Me, and find Me, when you search for Me with your whole heart.” – Jeremiah 29:11-13.

These are just a few of the promises found in the Word of God for those who SEEK to know Him. There are many more throughout the entire Bible, and numerous accounts of the Lord blessing those who live for Him.

So what does a life in pursuit of God look like? God wants you to know Him personally, and He wants an individual relationship with you. Taking time to read His Word and to talk to Him in prayer are ways that we can communicate with Him, and He with us. Building a relationship with Him, benefits our lives both on earth, and our eternal lives in heaven. We have everything to gain, and nothing to lose. It is a win-win situation.

As you start this year, make God a priority. Let Him personally show you how good life can be, when He is apart of it. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”  – James  4:8.
