A Solid Foundation for Getting New Clients – Part 1 – BNI Alberta south
Why read this? You may have heard the staggering statistics, 80% of businesses fail in their first 5 years. This is mind boggling especially when you consider that these businesses are often started by smart, hardworking people. In this series, I want to share with you some of the top secrets gleaned from the most successful BNI members across the globe. Over the last 32 years, BNI members have generated over $42 Billion worth of referred business for each other. What I am about to share with you are some of the principles that have enabled us to produce such staggering results.
Creating a solid foundation for your business begins with having a clear purpose, vision, mission and set of values for your business allows you to stay focused on what is most important to help you reach your goals. It prevents the “shiny object” syndrome that many business owners find themselves captive to every time a new idea occurs to them.
Your purpose is your WHY. Why do you do what you do? Why, aside from making money, do you get out of bed in the morning? Who will be negatively impacted if you do not play your part? This is a huge component when you are looking to attract more clients for your business. Defining your purpose helps you define your tribe, the people you want to help, and the people you will need to help you reach your goals. I am a firm believer that we are unique individuals, strategically placed on the planet to make a difference. Like pieces of a puzzle, when you and I do not play our part, we create a vacuum. If you have not already done so, I highly recommend watching Simon Sinek’s powerful video “Start with WHY”. Now, take some time to answer the following questions for your business, so you can begin attracting more great clients.
- Why do you do what you do?
- Why, do you get out of bed in the morning?
- Who will be negatively impacted if you do not do your part?
It’s that simple! Dig deep and get real with yourself. Once you feel you’ve got it, take time to craft a simple paragraph that you can share with prospective clients in a minute or less. In my next article, I will share how you can develop a powerful mission that will motivate both you and others to help you find new clients. Stay tuned.
