To MFP or not to MFP?

The multi-function printer, or MFP, has become an extremely valuable piece of equipment in the modern office. This versatile device eliminates the need for standalone printers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines, saving you space and money while benefiting the environment, as well.

Once you’ve decided to opt for an MFP (or replace your existing unit) the next step is to find the right machine for your organization. However, with so many choices out there, this decision can appear complicated — of all the machines available, which one is best-suited to handle your specific needs?

Selecting the right MFP is important to ensure that you end up with a machine that will meet your business needs, keep up with your workload, and prevent you from overspending on a unit. So how can you be sure to choose the right MFP for your office?

Define Your Needs – Take the time to go over your requirements and determine what you’ll need from an MFP. What will you be using it for, and how often? Will you be working with black and white or color documents? Which is more important to you, the speed and quantity, or the quality of your prints and scans? Which features, bells, and whistles will be beneficial or necessary to your operation?

Next month we’ll be continuing this topic but if you’re buying soon, contact us today, and let us help you choose the right MFP for your business.

Be Careful When Buying Cartridges

You should consider the environmental benefits of a refill or remanufactured cartridge. But are these options as good as the originals. The simple answer is yes with a “but”. While there maybe a subtle difference in color printouts with a refill as compared with those from a new ink cartridge, the black and white printouts are effectively of the same quality. “But”, you need to ensure that you’re not damaging your printer by buying cheap or substandard ink cartridges. In the hurry to save some money, don’t end up doing more harm to your printer.

When shopping for remanufactured cartridges, ask your supplier how thoroughly it inspects used cartridges before refilling them. Do they look for cracks? Do they test the electrical characteristics of the cartridge? A cartridge can look fine but have a broken electrical component, and then it won’t work. The vendor should also test the cartridge after the refill.

Recycling

At Perfect Print we turn used, empty inkjet and toner cartridges into usable products for our customers, all while saving them a lot of money.

Each year, North American households and businesses consume and throw away over 300 million laser and inkjet printer cartridges. These cartridges contribute over 200 million pounds of solid waste to our landfills.

The environmental impact of choosing remanufactured toner and inkjet cartridges is substantial. The typical used toner cartridge weighs about three pounds and is composed of 40% plastic, 40% metal, and smaller percentages of rubber, paper, foam and toner. About 97% of these combined components can be recycled. Approximately 120 million tons of recyclable material can be diverted from landfills each year just by participating in cartridge recycling programs.

Remanufacturing saves money, minimizes waste, conserves energy, prevents pollution and is economically efficient. So if you care about the world your children will inherit, want to protect the beauty of nature, or simply want to produce less garbage, please recycle your printer cartridges.
